Community Service
Students at Buckingham Friends School learn to become good stewards of their environment and the communities in which they live. Each year, BFS students and their families participate in a variety of community activities organized by the student Outreach Committee. In the past year, Buckingham Friends School participated in the following outreach activities:
September-October
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. On Halloween night, Buckingham Friends Students collect money for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to help children around the world.
November
Thanksgiving Dinner. BFS families donate the turkeys and all the trimmings for a complete Thanksgiving Dinner at a local senior community center. Two students from each class represent the school and personally serve and entertain their senior friends
November-December
Outreach Holiday Projects:
- The school community provides support to "A Woman's Place" in Doylestown by helping facilitate "A Woman's Place" Christmas Party.
- Each year, BFS sets up a tree decorated with snowflakes in the atrium of the school. Each snowflake shows an article that a member of a local needy family most desires. BFS students and families fulfill these wishes by choosing a snowflake on the tree and bringing in donations and gifts.
January
Martin Luther King Day
Students collaborated with Habitat for Humanity, packing snack bags for Habitat volunteers, filling welcome baskets for families with new homes, and building birdhouses to raise money for Habitat for Humanity
February-March
Breakfast bags with donated goods were provided for the food pantry to support the Bucks County Housing Group, a non-profit organization that works with homeless families and families of low income in Bucks County.
April
A water ice sale was held at Buckingham Friends School to raise funds for a scholarship at "La Main Forte" school in Haiti for two children.
May
An event selected by the Outreach Committee to raise funds for a scholarship for city children to attend to Camp Onas, a Quaker camp in Bucks County.
Other projects are often added on an ad hoc basis.
