School Board

The School Board at Buckingham Friends School oversees governance aspects of the school, including fiduciary responsibility, endowment and advancement, strategic planning and associated long range issues around academics, spirituality, school mission and physical plant. The board also hires the head of school, who is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the school. Members of the board are selected as representatives from Buckingham, Doylestown, Solebury and Wrightstown Monthly Meetings, Bucks Quarterly Meeting, parents of current students, and the community at large. Inspired by a love, concern and commitment to the school, board members volunteer their time, energy and resources to enable Buckingham Friends School to realize its fullest potential. Decisions of the board are guided by the School’s mission statement, that “Buckingham Friends School inspires a lifelong love of learning, nurtures a respect for the Light in every person, and fosters a sense of spiritual community.”

A Quaker School for over 200 years, Buckingham Friends School is steeped in traditions that give it a unique place in the community. Students are encouraged to experience the joys of childhood while developing a sense of stewardship in the local and global communities. Presented with opportunities for quiet reflection, integrity, kindness, nonviolent resolution, and caring for the world beyond oneself, these building blocks are the foundation on which the Board actively strives to keep the school on the forefront of academic excellence and technology, preparing its young for the challenges of making tomorrow’s world a better place.

Presently the school board is completing a Strategic Plan that will position Buckingham Friends School to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world, while holding on to the values that give the school its unique place in the community. Teaming with our new head of school, Lucretia “Lukie” Wells, we are poised to embark on a journey of discovery and growth that connects our deep ties to the past with the exciting future that awaits our children.
