Service Projects

B uckingham Friends School students express their global commitment by participating in a variety of service projects and fund-raising efforts throughout the year. These projects are conceived of, planned and carried out with the help of the JEM and Outreach student committees. Through these efforts, the school community has been able to provide much needed goods and services to schools and communities around the world.

Here are some of the things we've been able to accomplish:
  • BFS provided video-microscopes, computers and other scientific equipment to our partner school in Russia, along with the training necessary for the Russian teachers to use the equipment. This equipment allows our schools to jointly study and share environmental projects.

  • The BFS community provided funds to purchase wood for our partner school in Haiti. The wood was used to build classroom partitions, transforming their one-large-room-school-house setting into separate classrooms.

  • We provided an outboard motor to our partner school in the Amazon Rainforest, which now enables the community to oversee and protect a nearby tract of their land that was endangered by poachers and loggers.

  • Money was raised to provide elementary and/or secondary education for several of our Haitian and Amazonian partner school children.

  • BFS graduates that traveled to Ecuador as part of the JEM program continue to volunteer time during their summers to help with projects there.

  • A child from our Russian partner school was given the opportunity to attend George School and Drexel University.
