October 30, 2017

The Buckingham Friends School Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Lindenmaier as the next Head of School, effective July 1, 2018.  Mr. Lindenmaier currently serves as the Head of School at Berkshire Country Day School in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

The Board’s unanimous decision to appoint Paul followed a ten month nationwide search process that involved many qualified candidates and thoughtful input from faculty, staff, parents, Trustees, students, Meeting members and alumni. Ultimately, the Search Committee determined that Paul’s leadership, personality, experience, and insights best mesh with Buckingham Friends School’s special character.

Michael Godshall, Clerk of the Board of Trustees, commented, “We are confident that Paul’s leadership skills and vision will strongly support the school’s mission and its advancement, and our wish to continue to honor Buckingham Friends School’s important traditions.”

“I am thrilled to be joining the Buckingham Friends School community next July as the new Head of School,” said Lindenmaier.  “When I first heard of this position opening, I was immediately attracted to the extraordinary programs and clear commitment to excellence in all areas of academics and the arts at the school.”

As a life-long Quaker, Paul was educated in and understands the value and importance of a Friends school education. He believes that Buckingham Friends School (BFS) in particular provides the very best educational environment for shaping character, promoting originality, and strengthening independence.  “I am particularly drawn to how BFS offers a distinctive and exemplary education within an environment where each student can flourish to his/her fullest potential and be guided by Quaker principles and practices,” he noted.

“During my visit to BFS, it was wonderful to observe such dedicated and talented teachers in action and to witness the earnest and joyful participation of so many students, especially in the Meetinghouse.”

Prior to joining Berkshire Country Day in 2008, Paul was Head of Lower School at Moses Brown School, a nursery through grade 12 Friends school in Providence, RI. Paul served at Moses Brown from 1999-2008. He spent six years as Head of School at The School in Rose Valley, Media, PA.  Prior to his administrative positions, Paul was an elementary teacher at Germantown Friends School, in Philadelphia, PA.  Paul holds a Master’s in Education from Arcadia University, Glenside, PA.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from Goddard College, Plainfield, VT.  Paul and his wife Margaret have two children, Ava (age 24), a recent graduate of Bard College, and Julian (age 17), a senior at George School, in Newtown, PA.  Paul is excited to return to the Bucks County area where he has deep family roots.

Buckingham Friends School engages children in full-day kindergarten through 8th grade on a journey of discovery infused with Quaker values.  Located on a 44-acre wooded campus in Lahaska, PA, the school was established by the Buckingham Monthly Meeting in 1794.  Our powerfully balanced approach engenders a lifelong love of learning and a fearless sense of discovery.  In our small corner of the earth, we create a purposefully small, embracing community with global reach.

Welcome Paul and Margaret to the BFS community!
