3rd Grade Sap Tapping and Boiling

Mr. Haupert's 3rd Grade Class had their annual outdoor education day last Thursday where the class boiled down the maple sap they collected throughout the month of February. "It takes 40 gallons of sap to get one gallon of syrup, and this year we collected around 7 gallons of sap," said Mr. Haupert. Third grade spent the day boiling down the sap, making journals, and creating poems about nature similar to the ones they will be reading about in My Side of the Mountain, by Jean Craighead George in the coming weeks. The students will have the opportunity to sample the finished BFS maple syrup at an upcoming pancake day!
