Light The Way Forward: A Campaign for Buckingham Friends School

THE VISION
A Bold Vision for Our Students. Together, We Made it Real.
Framed by our BFS’s 2019 strategic plan, following a comprehensive readiness study, and guided by our 2020 campus facilities plan, we set out to support our vision for teaching and learning by transforming how our students learn, play, create, and grow.

We Had a Vision. Together, We Made It Real.
In August 2021, the Buckingham Friends School Board of Trustees took a historic step—unanimously approving a Capital Campaign to reimagine our beloved campus and strengthen our future. Four years later, we're proud to share that nearly every facility enhancement is now complete.
This is what the community can accomplish.

The Light The Way Forward Campaign addressed critical needs across our entire campus—from renovated classrooms and common areas to state-of-the-art facilities—while honoring the bucolic character that makes BFS so special.
Our promise: To complete this transformation without drawing from tuition or operating funds.\

LIGHT THE WAY FORWARD: THE STORY

PL quote
open space LTWFRenovated Classrooms & Common Spaces
Our historic main building now better supports our unique approach in the Middle and Upper Schools, featuring bright and flexible learning environments designed for 21st-century education. It also creates new common areas and instructional support spaces. New windows flood rooms with natural light. Updated infrastructure supports modern technology, and thoughtful design preserves the warmth and character our community loves.
gym LTWFA Brand-New Gymnasium
Gone is the beloved but aging gym that served generations of students. In its place stands a modern athletic facility where our students develop physical health, teamwork, school spirit, and spectators have space to attend and cheer on our athletes! A sustainable design, proper ventilation, excellent lighting, and professional-grade flooring create a space worthy of our PE program, athletic offerings, and community gatherings.

State-of-the-Art Science Building
Curiosity, exploration, and scientific study have a new home. Our dedicated science building and teaching porch feature flexible lab spaces, modern equipment, and—true to BFS values—direct access to outdoor learning environments. Here, young scientists explore, experiment, and discover. The building teaches the concepts of sustainable design and exceeds the standards of a “passive” house.
BUSBus Canopy & Safe Arrivals
Every school day begins and ends safely under our new bus canopy. The design echos the simple shape of a Quaker Meeting carriage building. Protected from the weather our students transition smoothly between home and school—and parents have peace of mind knowing that drop-off and pick-up take place in a secure, covered space.

servery LTWFCommunity Connector and Servery
This addition connects the Gymnasium and the Art Center, allowing for ADA access to and more space for both buildings and the space to host a wide range of events and community gatherings.
95Lower School Playground & Middle/Upper School Playground
Our students now enjoy thoughtfully designed outdoor, developmentally appropriate spaces that spark imagination and support proper development- that they helped design! These aren't just playgrounds—they are outdoor classrooms where physical, social, and cognitive growth happen through joyful
play.

THE ARTS CENTER
One Final Chapter: The Arts Center

split

Our signature Arts program is central to everything we value at Buckingham Friends School. Through music, visual arts, woodworking, and performance, students access their originality and creativity, build confidence and competencies, find their voice, and deepen their understanding of what it means to be human.
Now it's time to give our arts program the home it deserves.

The Arts Center includes:LTWF HEART WOODSHOP
● A dedicated music studio with proper acoustics and an adjacent practice and
recording room
● An expanded multimedia art studio with increased natural light
● An enhanced woodshop laboratory with improved safety features
● A renovated theater and auditorium for performances and community gatherings
This is the final phase of our campaign. Help us complete the vision.
